Residential
Program
House of Hope is a Christian therapeutic school, home, and
counseling center for hurting and troubled girls, ages 12-17.
We have an intensive program offering Christian education
and counseling for girls and their families regardless of
their financial situation. Our nonprofit ministry is unique
because we require parents to participate in weekly counseling
and weekly parenting skill workshops.
4 Phase System
When the girls enter our program, they are expected
to progress through the following phases while earning additional
privileges and spending more time with their family:
Phase I focuses on obeying
rules, respecting others and authority, learning basic life
skills/manners, and successfully completing chores.
Phase II targets the issues affecting the
family. These include issues such as low self-esteem, lack of respect, neglect, rebellion, manipulation, sexual, physical and emotional abuse, and self-mutilation.
Phase III focuses on learning leadership
skills and increased responsibility while concentrating
on consistent spiritual growth.
Graduation Phase involves additional time
back at home allowing everyone a chance to be sure the family
is ready for complete reconciliation.
Parent Involvement
Parents are required to spend time with their daughter
on approved weekly visits/passes for every phase. Throughout
the phases, both parents and teenager are involved in weekly
counseling. Visitation and privileges are gradually increased
so that we are consistently working toward our goal of reconciling
the family.
Family Life Training
Each Tuesday night we hold Family Life Training Workshops. Those in attendance are typically residents, outpatient girls, and the parents and guardians. Some Family Life Training Workshops are for parents and guardians only. These hour and a half sessions are taught by one or more of our qualified counselors. Issues such as listening skills, conflict resolution, personality differences, and parenting skills are taught. Interactive activities are also done to help in the restoration and understanding process. There are occasional confidential parent support groups where parents are allowed to share struggles and work together on praise and discipline techniques
Education
Academy of Hope is our on campus school. The girls
are taught using the A.C.E.-Accelerated Christian Education,
School of Tomorrow Curriculum. Many of the girls are behind
in their studies, and this program allows them to fill in
learning gaps and work at full potential to catch up. A
teacher(s) instructs and guides the class as they work on
individual lessons or together on group projects. We alway
shave a need for volunteers to help the girls when specific
academic challenges arise. Volunteers may also teach art,
serving, cooking, nutrition, exercise and tennis. The girls
also volunteer at least once a month serving in the community
at such places as a senior center or food bank.
Counseling
Each resident receives one hour of private counseling per week. We cover issues such as, sexual, physical, mental and emotional abuse, depression, anxiety, self-mutilation neglect and divorce. When more in-depth therapy is required, the sessions may increase. The girls also learn how to handle specific issues in their weekly support group.
Every resident also attends our Family Life Training Workshop
every Tuesday evening to work towards family reconciliation
and learn improved communication skills.
Parents are required to participate in one hour of counseling
each week and attend our Family Life Training Workshops
every Tuesday. Based on the individual family needs, parents'
sessions may be for the couple or separate. As the family
progresses, they will begin to meet as a family for counseling.
Outpatient Program
The outpatient program requires one hour of counseling
for the daughter and a separate hour for the parents each
week. In addition, both the parents and the daughter are
required to participate in our Family Life Training Workshop
every Tuesday evening.
The Outpatient Program is designed to:
- Enable us to begin working with a family as early as
possible, even if the residential space is not available.
- Allow us to serve families that need counseling but
do not need residential care.
- The goal of our Outpatient Program is to counsel a
family and hopefully prevent them from needing residential
care.
